Washington, D.C.: U.S. President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended the planned 25% tariffs on Canadian imports for 30 days, following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The decision provides both nations with a crucial window to negotiate trade and border security measures.

As part of the agreement, Canada will deploy 10,000 troops to its northern border to curb fentanyl smuggling and appoint a “Fentanyl Czar” to enhance enforcement efforts. Additionally, a joint U.S.-Canada strike force will target organized crime and money laundering.
The business community, particularly Canadian auto parts suppliers, welcomed the pause, citing concerns about potential economic disruptions. Meanwhile, the U.S. is moving forward with a 10% tariff on Chinese exports.

The 30-day suspension marks a critical period for diplomatic engagement between the U.S. and Canada, aiming to strengthen economic ties while addressing key security concerns.
